I’m Nicola Williams. I’m a family lawyer based in Didsbury, Manchester. I also see clients in Cheadle Hulme and I have access to consulting rooms in Carter Lane London EC4v 5EQ.

As a family law specialist for over 25 years, I’ve built a strong reputation for honest, practical family law advice.

My practise is in Didsbury although I also cover Chorlton, Cheadle Hulme and the wider South Manchester/Cheshire area.

Do you need a family lawyer if you don’t have a dispute?

Despite what you might read in the news, family law isn’t all about disputes or going to court. Far from it.

In fact, I help people at all stages of family life record their financial agreements, tax status and intentions.

For example, separation agreements can reduce certain taxes (like capital gains tax).

Meanwhile, a will makes sure your property goes to people you care about.

Above all, well drafted legal agreements prevent disputes in the long run.

A bit more about me

Firstly, my areas of expertise are:

Advising unmarried couples. For example, I advise separating couples who have bought property together how to divide the proceeds.

Prenuptial agreements. In particular, these are suitable for couples getting married for the second time.

Separation advice. This includes how to minimise the tax consequences of moving out.

Financial and legal advice for couples going through divorce. This includes agreed financial orders. These are also called consent orders.

Trust deeds. I specialise in trust deeds for friends and families who are buying property together. This includes siblings or children and parents. Advice includes how to minimise the tax consequences.

Preparation of wills, especially trust wills.

Secondly, here’s a bit more about my career history.

My training was provided by two very experienced family law solicitors who went on to become senior District Judges.

My first job was for a large high street law firm. In the early days, I dealt with crime and conveyancing as well as domestic violence and divorce.

As a result, I have a good working knowledge of how various legal processes work. Importantly, I understand how they fit alongside my work as a family lawyer.

After a couple of years I began to specialise in family law.

I set up my own law firm, Nicola Williams & Co in 2001 and worked there until the end of 2019. I then moved into consultancy.

Like many people, during the pandemic I also took the welcome opportunity to spend more time with my family and supervise home schooling.

Now the world is returning to normality, and I’m looking forward to joining Taylor Rose MW in July.
