financial family law for individuals and families

Nicola Williams Solicitor

Background

I qualified as a solicitor in 1996, after receiving excellent foundation training in conveyancing, wills and probate, crime and family law at the very well-regarded firm, Forshaws Solicitors in Warrington.

In family law in particular, I was fortunate enough to train with two solicitors who have gone on to become senior District Judges in Manchester and Liverpool.

After completing my training, I specialised in family law, in particular focusing on family property after separation and divorce.

Having spent 7 years at Forshaws, I left to set up my own practice in Cheadle, Cheshire.

Nicola Williams & Co opened in Cheadle, Cheshire, a niche firm offering family law advice.

After nearly 20 years as a sole practitioner I am now an associate at AFG Law Limited in Bolton, specialising in Family property and finance.

What I do

I help people understand their rights and responsibilities on

buying or selling property,

moving in together,

splitting up,

getting divorced, or

making a will.

I help individuals, couples and families solve or avoid problems relating to their property and money.

What is financial family law?

Family law is an umbrella term, used very generally to describe dozens of laws that apply to families.

In fact, individuals and families need solicitors with experience in a broad cross section of legal issues to help them navigate the big events in life, such as moving house, living together, getting married or divorced, and the death of a loved one.

Contract law, the law of property and trusts, tax and social security, employment law and company law all impact on families.

What is a family?

The concept of a family is complicated.

Does it include a cohabiting couple? Or an unmarried couple with children?

Does an unmarried couple have the same property rights as a married couple?

Can a dependent friend be part of your family. Can you leave them your pension?

What about children you live with but have no legal or blood connection to? Can they claim on your estate?

What I believe in

Affordable legal help for individuals and families without compromising on quality.

Transparent fixed fee pricing.

Honest, practical legal advice.

These are the foundations on which my practice is built.

Where I work

I work at AFG Law Limited in Greater Manchester.

I have worked as a solicitor, providing a range of legal services to individuals and couples, in Cheadle Hulme in Cheshire, and in Chorlton and Didsbury in Manchester since 2001.

I see clients in person at AFG Law’s offices in Bolton.

For the convenience of clients in other areas I can also arrange meetings over Teams.
